There are opportunities to bill for patient care when the patient is not present in the office.  A few codes that you should look into would be the “Care plan Oversight codes” 99340, 99375, 99378 or 99380.  There is also a newly reimbursed code by Medicare of  Advanced Care Planning code of 99497 if a provider discussing end of life issues with a family member for more than 16 minutes.
